Glass house guide

Case overview

Glass house guide contacted us through our commercial ally FusionHit ,Our client needed a visual tool for people looking to view their homes through the Alexa plug in they developed, the difficulty of the project was the development of a visual tool for an audio-only skill.

The Brief

By providing a visual tool to supplement an audio-only skill designed for Amazon Alexa, we want to address a unique difficulty in the field of user experience (UX) design. The client has developed an outstanding Alexa plug-in that allows people to interact with and get information about their homes. The lack of a visual component for an audio-based ability, on the other hand, offers a substantial UX challenge. Our objective is to overcome this gap by developing a novel solution that smoothly integrates visual aspects with the existing expertise, hence increasing user engagement and comprehension.

Our Approach

Project Goals:

  • Intuitive Home Visualization: Develop an intuitive and user-friendly interface that translates audio information from the Alexa skill into meaningful visual representations of the user’s home.
  • Seamless Integration: Ensure the visual tool seamlessly integrates with the existing Alexa skill, enhancing the overall user experience without disrupting the original functionality.
  • Cross-Platform Compatibility: Design the visual tool to be compatible with a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers, to cater to diverse user preferences.
  • Accessibility and Inclusivity: Implement accessibility features to make the visual tool usable by a wide range of users, including those with disabilities.
  • User-Centered Design: Conduct user research and engage in iterative design processes to gather user feedback and insights, ensuring that the final product meets users’ needs and preferences.
  • Enhanced Engagement: Enhance user engagement by providing visual cues and real-time updates, making the interaction with the Alexa skill more dynamic and engaging.
  • Seamless Data Synchronization: Develop a robust backend system that syncs audio and visual data in real-time, ensuring a consistent user experience across both mediums.

Challenges:

The primary challenge of this project lies in creating a visual counterpart for an audio-only skill. The team must design an interface that effectively conveys complex home-related information through visuals, taking into account the limitations of the Alexa platform and the diverse needs of users.

Project Phases:

  • Research and Analysis: We conducted a thorough analysis of the existing Alexa skill, user expectations, and competitors’ offerings. Insights were gathered from potential users to inform the design process.
  • Concept Design: Initial concepts for the visual tool’s interface were generated, exploring different ways to represent home information visually.
  • Prototyping: Interactive prototypes were developed to validate design concepts and gather feedback from users. The interface was refined based on iterative testing.
  • Development: The finalized design was implemented, ensuring compatibility across various devices and platforms.
  • Testing and Refinement: Rigorous testing of the integrated visual tool with the Alexa skill was conducted, identifying and addressing any usability issues.
  • User Training and Documentation: User guides and documentation were created to assist users in seamlessly transitioning to the updated skill.
  • Launch and Deployment: The enhanced Alexa skill with the integrated visual tool was deployed, and user feedback was closely monitored. Any post-launch issues were addressed promptly.

The Results

We hope to transform the way people engage with their homes through voice assistants by effectively designing a visual tool that complements the client’s audio-only Alexa skill. This project demonstrates our attention to new UX solutions and our commitment to providing outstanding user experiences even under difficult circumstances.
